Clif shot blok - a great source of carbs when you're on a long run Apr 10, 2007
By frowzy Clif shot bloks are an excellent way to replenish your body with some carbs if you're on a long run (> 1 hr). I tried some of the gels and I just didn't like the taste or their stickiness; clif shot bloks were the answer for me. They taste great, you eat 3 blocks of them every 40-60 minutes, and chase them with water. They kind of remind me of gummy bears - they taste just as yummy, but they are not as chewy so are easier to eat when running.

By J. Laansma The shot bloks with caffeine are amazing. I have used them for several long training runs and races. Since I eat three hours before a big race, I often take a serving 15 minutes before the start of a race. I also replenish my supply taking them 40 minutes after the start of the race to give me kick. It takes about 15 minutes to get into your bloodstream. Be sure to drink water/gatorade with them. When it's cold outside, they are a little hard to chew at first.

If you have a problem stomaching energy gels, then Shot Bloks are the cure for your rock bottom blues! Of all flavors, Lemon Lime is easiest to consume while my heartrate is pounding while I am racing down a trail. Any endurance athlete should give these a try. They are like little psychedelic carb-loaded finger jellos of power. They are addictive.

Work Great, taste not so much Oct 23, 2008
By Kory Kebert I used these blocks training for the Chicago Marathon. The first few times, I enjoyed the taste, but was a little put off by how big and chewy they were.
The package says that each package is two servings of blocks. However, there is not a very good way to store the second half of the bag while on your run. The remaining blocks got even stickier than they started out.
Also, they were somewhat hard to eat while running. They were just too big and too chewy.
I have switched to the Jelly Belly Sport Beans, which I find better tasting and somewhat easier to eat due to their smaller size.

Excellent fuel source for long runs Jun 13, 2007
By frowzy I've tried several gels for 'fuel' during my long runs. Most don't taste very good - I just take them like medicine. In contrast, I actually enjoy eating Cran-Razz Clif Shot Bloks, and they definitely help keep me going strong on long runs. The only drawback is that each package contains 6 bloks, and you only take 3 every 45 minutes or so during a long run. Before my long runs, I just re-package them into groups of 3 in sandwich bags.
