DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY !!!! Jan 22, 2007
By The Truth Is Out There This is another fly by night workout machine that looks great in the pictures and on videos but when you take it out of the box, you realize that it is poorly and cheaply constructed. I own a ton of excerise equipment and this is the only piece of equipment I have had to return...I have purchased so much on the internet this past year and have been very happy with all of my products. That is until I purchased this Ab-Doer which was a TOTAL waste of time and money.
The tension on the arms of the unit is way too flimsy and loose...The foam around the arms is also very cheap foam in fact my daughter used it "once" and there was already a small chunk of foam that came off the unit...She does not even have long nails...The bars that connect the seat to the bottom of the unit stay in place ok when your on it, but they do not lock in the base when your not on it so if you pick-up the unit to move it, it collapses...
What's really bad is the so called back massager that is located on the main area of the center stem. It does nothing but hurt your back and is worthless...Even adjusting the bar for different heights is a joke...It's a screw, not a quick disconnect...
This is one of those products that make a ton of money by mass advertising but will quickly fad out fast unless there are MAJOR changes done to this unit...It's sad when you watch some of those excercise info-mercials that have all these people with great bodies that may be fooling you into believing that the products really work...
I couldn't find any reviews on these until now...I will never again buy a product without reading reviews from the customer themselves. We are the best source of honesty on the market...Save your money or just do some sit-ups and leg raises if you can...They work SOOOOO MUCH BETTER than this product !!!
If you do some searching, you will see some of the BAD reviews about this product that are coming in...Based on Amazon's review rules, I cannot list where I read them from...
Have a Great day everyone !!!

Great Abdominal Workout, but you won't get a ripped 6 pack May 23, 2007
By Vance Christensen "The Ab-Doer is a piece of junk!" - "I used it a couple times and didn't see ANY results!"
Those are just a couple ridiculous reviews I've stumbled across the web when researching the Ab-DOer. I saw so many negative reviews for this product that I almost didn't purchase it, but I gave it a go and I must say I was impressed. It's a GREAT abdominal workout, and considerably reduces the presence of fat around your midsection, but please note: You will NOT get a 6-pack from this product!! If you were expecting to get ripped abs, this isn't the machine for you, at least not by itself. Also, those people making those reviews probably expected to sit on the chair and wiggle their tummies a few times for a couple minutes and that's it to get abs. WRONG! You will NEVER get a 6 pack just by using a machine, unless you have the genetics. You need to watch what you eat. I guarantee you that half of these reviews came from people who eat poorly and probably stop at McDonalds on their way to work in the morning, or eat fast food 3 or 4 times a week. They might even skip breakfast, eat a small lunch, and then gourge themselves at supper time. You should eat multiple meals small meals several times a day. Don't wait to get hungry to eat; you'll end up overeating. You'll lose more weight by eating 5 or 6 smaller meals than you would eating 2 or 3 large meals a day. That'll speed up your metabolism considerably, which is what you want.
So many people have said it's just another expensive coat rack, and that they felt nothing when they got done using the machine. Well for one, the reason why it became a furniture item as opposed to a workout machine is because you weren't motivated to get on it more than twice and refused to have anything to do with it past the first week because you expected results then and now! Your body isn't an amoeba, changing at will. You have to work it, condition it, and then you will start to see changes within a matter of two weeks, with considerable change 4-6 weeks along.
And people say they don't feel the burn they think they should, so obviously the machine doesn't do much for you. WRONG! For some odd reason, people feel that you need to be absolutely punished to see results and nothing could be further from the truth. I'm an active person, but I guarantee you that if you are inactive and go out to jog 5 miles, you'll feel like you want to rip your legs off and die, right? But the average person won't really feel the burn an hour afterwards or even the next day, but you'll start to see results within a matter of time, typically a couple of weeks. People think that just because your muscles burn the day after means that you have to feel that way with everything else. Not true! How many times do you feel the burn when you lift weights, as you're doing it? NEVER! I lift weights 4 times a week and I never feel the burn as I'm lifting, but I do feel fatigued as I get to my final reps on the final set. But you DO feel it the day after, and why is that? Because you're tearing muscle fibers that need to rebuild and lactic acid has built up due to anaerobic respiration by your cells' powerhouses. Yet if you go jog 5 miles, you feel the burn as you're working out and typically not the day afterward like you do with weights. You see how it's an exact opposite? Because it's aerobic respiration with jogging and anaerobic with weight lifting. Don't believe me? Try it. Go and do 30 sit ups, and I guarantee you that you will feel the burn the further along you go. But I also promise that the average person WON'T feel the burn 5 minutes afterward. Does that mean you aren't getting results? No, it means that you didn't rip apart your muscle fibers like you did with weight lifting, and that your cells got the oxygen necessary for the workout. You don't need to punish yourself, so quit thinking that you do!!
People say this product is poorly built, flimsy, whatever. The machine serves its purpose, and for $100, it's built like a $100 workout machine!! If you want an elite workout and elite craftsmanship, feel free to spend the $2000 on a Bowflex. You get what you pay for and I would say that this machine is definitely worth the money, unless you're expecting Mr. America results.
Some things you need to consider, though. You will see results from using this machine alone, but you won't reach anywhere near the potential unless you use this in conjunction with some sort of workout routine. You need to condition your body by either jogging, jump roping (probably the best), swimming, or cycling. In addition, eat healthy. Go for whole foods like 100% whole grain bread, fresh fruits and vegetables, reduced fat milk, etc. Avoid snacking on processed foods like potato chips and candy. Definitely avoid refined sugars like found in soda and sweets as these are very high in carbohydrates, which will whip you out of shape within a matter of a couple days.

big mistake Feb 17, 2007
By Elaine Brown
"disappointed"
This was a horrible product, it was difficult to manuever and control. It did nothing but immediately cause my arms, shoulders and wrists to hurt. I felt absolutely nothing at all in the target area, my stomach. Not even a little. It was boring and pointless to bother. This machine was a waste of time to ship back and forth and I do not recomend it to anyone who wants to work their stomach muscles. Its a misleading product and very uncomfortable on the back also. It hurt my spine to bend in the way they said. I felt the machine digging into my spine. I was so focused on the pain and the pain in my arms I could not continue for more than 5 minutes at a time. Dont waste your time buying this product. Its expensive and not worth it.

Good Option for Larger, Less Toned, Less Mobile Person -- Not for the Athlete Feb 09, 2009
By Aunt Jan
"Jan"
I have both positive & disappointing feelings about this product. I did loose 30 lbs (proof at doctor's office) in a little less than a year using only this machine; this equated to 1 to 2 pant sizes depending on brand/style. However, the vertical bar -- the METAL bar -- broke. It snapped! Despite that metallurgy class I took in college, I did not see this coming -- a completely unexpected and dangerous device failure.
IMO, this product is not a good choice for the in-shape, well toned, highly athletic person. It is however, a workable option for a larger (i.e., fatter), less mobile, less toned, movement-challenged person. I used to be the former, but after an accident, many years of aggressive physical therapy, multiple surgeries, scary pharmaceuticals, etc., I am the latter. Using this chair helped me reduce my waist and stomach, which lessened stress on my spine. I positioned it in front of the TV and tried to use it a few minutes every day. Perhaps they should have named it the "Stomach-Doer." It worked well for me until the moment the vertical bar snapped into two pieces.
In conclusion, it is a good place for a health-challenged person to start exercising in the privacy of their home; it does not require much space; it is ready to use out of the box (just adjust a few push pins for your back height); it collapses flat. However, there are product quality concerns/issues/problems that may limit the life of the apparatus and possibly prove dangerous. This may or may not have to do with the fact it is made in China. I truly have mixed feelings (both ends of the spectrum) about the "Ab-DOer Xtreme," and I do miss it.
Other facts: I bought it new; I paid $99 w/free shipping (TV infomercial); attempts to get help from the company wrt/replacing the broken, vertical, METAL bar proved unsuccessful and a complete waste of my time; I got 10 months use out of it w/positive results.
