Outstanding product!! May 26, 2007
By Joel Dauteuil This is 5-stars and it's not even close.
I'm sure there are cheaper solutions but I didn't want to fool around with other products and then end up having to buy this anyway a year from now.
I've heard good things about this Thule rack from friends for years and now I'm in a position to attest to the quality - worth every penny.
Pros:
- Easy to put on and take off.
- Bends out of the way so you can get in and out of the hatch back (4-Runner)
- Rock solid engineering and quality materials are obvious - I'll have this for life - I have no doubts.
- SL2 lock for securing this to your hitch and making "thief-proof" is a must and I'm very impressed with how they pulled that off as well. Buy the lock right away - you're going to want it.
Cons - none yet to speak of - I'll update this if something comes up.
Comment: I have my doubts about the lock that secures the bikes to the rack - the cable lock - I don't question Thule's product - I think it's as good as anything out there but I don't have any confidence in cable locks in general securing my bikes.
I haven't bought a solution yet because I need to figure out the measurements. But, I'll likely buy 2-4 Kryptonite locks to secure the bikes to the rack. I wouldn't feel comfortable with anything less. Cable locks are just too easy for thiefs to cut. Ideally, I'd like 2-3 Kryptonite locks with the same key.

Pretty Good Aug 27, 2008
By JarHarms 2 bike version mounted to a 2002 Focus ZX3 in a 1 1/4" hitch. Works well enough to transport my bikes without having to remove any wheels. The lower folding portion does make hatch opening easier. I chose the Roadway for the folding top portion. This great when the rack is on your car but no bike is being carried, it folds down improving clearance and doesn't look as funky. The receiver post is on the long side for my car but the designed length is probably that way for more universal fitment. I swear a car behind me at a stop light is going to run into the up-post someday. As much as I don't like reflective stuff, some 3M reflective tape on the lower end of the up-post might be a good idea. The included strap works fine but I opted for the Thule plastic sway cages. The strap is being used to keep the front wheel form moving side to side. The Thule snug tight 2 lock works well.
I suggest using anti-seize on whatever bolt/locking pin you use to install this. Also make sure you use some sort of lube on the receiver tube and post to prevent corrosion which could lock the rack into the receiver.
Best bike item I've bought yet......besides my bike.

Solid construction, good design! Apr 20, 2008
By Puddle Pirate I read a few reviews of this and other bike racks of comparable size and construction and decided this one was for me. I am an occasional biker, but I travel alot by car (college student) and so a 2-bike rack made sense (I only ever carry my bike).
It has worked out great so far!! Before I installed a hitch on my car, I put the rack on a friend's car for a trip. No sweat over the installation! Then, when I had to switch it over to my car, it was no problem at all. Both cars were able to handle 4hrs+ with the bike with no damage to car, bike, hitch or rack. The folding ability is a must (I own a Volvo wagon) and it works well. The security lock is a good idea, it was worth the money when my car was parked for an extended period of time in a public area. Also- the adapter for the mount (2" to 1.25") works perfectly. I was very impressed.
No regrets! I would recommend this product to anybody.

Nice Hitch, Bad Connection Jul 24, 2010
By Brandon Overall the rack is excellent quality and it holds the bikes very securely. All the other reviews already hit the high points. But there's one thing that was overlooked in all those reviews and I feel it's a huge design flaw. The connection to your vehicles receiver hitch. The rack I received makes the connection to your vehicles recevier hitch with just a bolt and a couple washers. The bolt isn't even long enough to go all the way through a 2" receiver so you can put a nut on the other end and secure it properly. Furthermore, the hole the bolt goes in isn't even big enough for a standard 5/8" hitch pin to go through. Their connection solution of a bolt and a couple of washers isn't secure enough for me and I believe it's actually a law in this state and others to have a cotter pin or some other sort of locking mechanism to keep the pin from coming out. I'm sure their Snug-Tite lock fits perfectly, but for $50 it's way overpriced. It's cheaper for me to buy a decent locking hitch pin and drill out the hole on the rack. The rack itself would get five stars if it weren't for their method of connecting it to the receiver hitch.

Helpful Hints Jun 29, 2010
By Mapo A very solid piece of equipment. The bolt which binds the carrier to the trailer hitch has a tendency to work loose. I put some loctite, a superglue product, on the bolt and this appears to have taken care of the problem. I purchased an inexpensive cable type bicycle lock at Walmart rather than the expensive Thule lock. So far so good. I just wrap the extra cable around the carrier post etc.
