Nice Rack May 05, 2008
By James Cho I've used this bike rack for over 10,000 miles across the U.S., on two sedans and one SUV. It's always been secure and rock solid (tried only one bike) at every speed I've driven, ranging from highways to gravel roads in all weather. It is an effective bike carrier and I do recommend it. There are some minor pitfalls though.
The mounting is tricky, with any car. It took me 40 minutes the first time, now I can do it in 15, ensuring everything's good. The documentation isn't terribly clear either because the actual mounting is a nonlinear process. You'll need to factor the rack mounting into your "getting ready" time. Tying up excess length on the straps is troublesome; you'll probably be rolling them up and taping them together. So you'll need tape with this rack. Last, its two screwknobs are easily lost and the product could have well been designed with a better mechanism for adjusting the rack to fit other cars. These are minor though, and the rack does carry a bike quite well.
Things to note about trunk racks in general:
They're easy theft targets; at the end of the day, the canvas straps can be cut and the whole assembly stolen. This is acceptable for driving and stopping along an interstate, but not for sitting in the Ikea lot all day. Mounting the rack also renders the trunk inaccessible, entailing some foresight when loading the car for a multi-stop trip.

Very Very bad bike rack Jul 04, 2006
By Greg Smith
"gjbelly"
I have owned this bike rack for over a year, and with light use, pieces just keep braking off this thing. It is made with a lot of plastic, and plastic and bike racks don't go together. Since I have bought this, the back "plastic" piece that keeps the holders on came off while on the highway, almost lost both bikes at 70 MPH. The adjustable angle section, which is the large plastic piece that holds all the pipes together, kept braking through the holes, one by one. Long and short, i have learned my lesson. I will never by a bike rack with "plastic" pieces again.

Works great for the price May 22, 2007
By Malcolm Murdock I have no real complaints. The rack is sturdy and seems very well-built. I'm definitely happy with the purchase. The only slightly annoying this is that there's no built-in way to secure the extra slack in the straps once you've tightened everything down, so you either need to secure them yourself (i.e. rubber bands or something similar) or they'll flap around while you drive. I'm going to try to buy some velcro straps to serve this purpose, but a built-in solution would have been nice.
Overall though, I'm happy with the purchase. It provides a very reasonably priced solution. I wouldn't suggest getting any cheaper model than this one though unless it's for very short drives. The anti-sway clips on this one serve an important purpose and I don't believe the cheaper models offer this.

Good bike rack Jun 09, 2008
By J. Ogden I purchased this rack based on Thule's reputation and other reviews stating that it's a decent bike rack- I did not make the wrong decision with this model. This bike back holds two mountain bikes without any problems and is very sturdy if tied down properly.

World Class Bike Rack Sep 12, 2009
By Robert Gray I go to a lot of big road bike events and ride road bikes several thousand miles a year. I looked at a lot of other racks at events and talked to the people were using them. This is one of the the most sturdy, stable and well detailed racks available. The robust rubber stays and guides keep the bikes securely positioned and protected. If you are going to put very expensive road bikes on a car rack, you can afford the best rack.
